Best Mediums for Indoor Growing

Best Mediums for Indoor Growing

best soil for indoor growing

With winter about to be in full swing, growing indoors is the best options for home-growers that want to grow more than once a year outdoors. There's a couple options to do this.

Hydroponic cultivation is one of the most effective methods for growing the highest quality indoor plants. But it is much simpler and easier to grow in a pot with soil.

Here's some of the top soils and other mediums for growing indoors, whether all natural or with hydroponics.

Growers High Porosity

Growers High Porosity is quickly becoming a favorite among cultivators for its soilless blend of coco, peat and perlite that is ideal for hydroponic growing but can be used as traditional soil as well.

High Porosity also comes with a little added lime to completely balance out its pH, so there's no buffering needed before it's ready to use. The combination of coco, peat and perlite gives Growers High Porosity extra aeration while still maintaining incredible moisture and nutrient retention.

CANNA Coco

CANNA is one of the most well-known names in the cultivation industry, and for good reason. Developed in Holland, CANNA has been on the forefront of cultivation development techniques, and was one of the first to bring hydroponics into the mainstream.

CANNA Coco is a pure coco product with no other additives. It has had a full buffering to prevent the medium from consuming the nutrients, instead making the nutrients directly available to the plant right away.

Fox Farm Ocean Forest

Fox Farm's Ocean Forest potting soil is a classic, nutrient rich potting soil. It's a blend of premium earthworm castings, bat guano, and sea-going fish and crab meal, with aged forest products, sandy loam, and sphagnum peat moss that give Ocean Forest a light, aerated texture.

When it comes to traditional potting soils, Ocean Forest is a tried and true product that provides your plants with the essential nutrients and added micronutrients to give them an extra boost.

Grodan Rockwool

Rockwool is a soilless medium made from molten rock spun into cotton candy-like fibers and then compressed into cubes, blocks, or slabs. Where other rockwool brand manufacturers cut all sizes from one batch of wool, Grodan is unique by making different types of fibers.

The purpose is to support the requirement of the plant in the different plant stages. Grodan has a tremendous capacity for absorbing nutrient solution while retaining plenty of oxygen for rapid plant growth. While it doesn't come with any nutrients built in like a bag of soil, the inertness of rockwool allows it to absorb nutrients extremely effectively for vigorous root development and plant growth.

Royal Gold Tupur

Royal Gold was actually founded by Cultivate's founder, Chip Baker. Tupur was created with the grower in mind, and more specifically a grower that likes to feed more.

Originally designed for slow drip hydroponic systems, growers have found just as much success using Tupur in traditional soil pots with normal watering. Depending on the size of your container, you can potentially feed your plants up to 6 times per day!
